At the Crossroads
7 July 2009
At the beginning of the spiritual journey, no matter our chronological age, it is almost easy to feel the incomprehensible desire and excitement for the Path, when one does not know and cannot see what lies ahead. At the very beginning one feels the deep desire for the hard work, discipline, and total commitment required, and one can meet it with the energy of wonder, newness, the return of what is Ancient in oneself.
Over time, as one performs the great and sacred work of vanquishing the ego and the inauthentic self, the work of experiencing and deeply knowing light and darkness within, ever in deep communion with Spirit, one begins to see the mountains endless in the distance — from the peak of the mountain just reached. Having come this far and seen and known some of that road, one must summon again the wonder and freshness, become ever more comfortable in the tension between ego and self, darkness and light, in order for true ecstatic power infused with impeccable integrity to rise up. When one reaches the Crossroads, one is asked by the Guardian at the Threshold to choose. It is an inevitable choice, a key appointment, that awaits all who walk the Way of Initiation: turn back, stay put, go forward?
